A HUD Home is a one-to-four unit residence acquired as a result of a foreclosure on a FHA-insured mortgage. A HUD Home may be a single-family house, a townhouse, condominium or other type of residence. Offers for HUD Homes can only be made through a licensed real estate broker. The person making the highest acceptable bid is generally awarded that HUD Home. HUD Homes, because they're sold in "as-is" condition, can often be a great, affordable opportunity for the fixer-upper.
